SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
Applications for a Social Security Card are available at the Columbia Heights Post Office, 940 44th Avenue NE. The Post Office is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday.
 
PASSPORTS & VISAS

MEDICAL FACILITIES
Numerous medical professionals, offering all types of specialized care, are available in the community. Columbia Park Clinic is a comprehensive service provider located at 40th and Central. Hospitals such as Unity Hospital in Fridley and numerous Minneapolis hospitals are easily accessible to residents.
 
BUS/TRANSIT SERVICE
The Metro Transit System serves the greater St. Paul/Minneapolis metro area and run frequently on University and Central Avenue as well as across 40th Avenue. A new transit hub opened at 41st & Central in Sept, 2000.Call (612) 373-3333 for more information.

COMMUNICATIONS
Daily newspapers for the region are the Minneapolis Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press. Weekly coverage of local events is provided by the Focus News which is the official City paper. Local news items are also covered by the bi-weekly Northeaster Newspaper.

ALEXANDRA HOUSE
Alexandra House (763) 780-2330) is the battered women's shelter for this area. They provide safe housing, support information and referral to resources in the community
DAY CARE
Licensing is done by the Anoka County Community Health and Social Services department  (763) 422-7146. Day care providers caring for 12 or more children must be approved by the City.
 
SOUTHERN ANOKA COUNTY ASSISTANCE (S.A.C.A.) (763) 789- 2444
S.A.C.A. at 627 38th Ave NE, operates a food shelf for the cities of Columbia Heights, Fridley and Spring Lake Park and provides assistance to those in need.
 
CABLE TV
Cable TV is provided through Comcast. Their customer service number is (651) 222-3333. Columbia Heights government information is found on Channel 16 locally. Channel 15 is the Public Access channel.
FARMERS MARKET
The Anoka County Farmers Market is located in the Immaculate Conception Church parking lot at 4030 Jackson Street NE. The market is open each Thursday afternoon from 2:00 to 6:00 P.m., May through October.
