In March 2017, the City of Columbia Heights began work on the 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update. The update is expected to take a total of 14 months, with an anticipated completion date in late 2018. The City highly encourages all residents and businesses to actively participate in the plan update. Over the course of the next year, there will be several opportunities for community involvement. There will be neighborhood and community meetings throughout the City, as well as outreach opportunities at community events, such as the Jamboree and Community Picnics. Currently, the City hasn't confirmed any dates or times for when community engagements will take place. Please stay tuned for more updates!
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan is a planning document that implements the long-range vision of the community. It incorporates multiple aspects of how a community will develop in areas, such as land use, transportation, water resources management, parks & trails, housing, resiliency, and economic competitiveness. Furthermore, this document serves as a guide to help elected city officials make informative decisions.
Why is a Comprehensive Plan Important?
A comprehensive plan is a legal document that forms the foundation of rules and regulations in a community. It provides predictability and fairness to residents, businesses, elected officials, and developers by being transparent about the long-range vision of the community.
